About Myself
I’ve been a nurse for 7 years and initially started out in long-term care facilities, which I absolutely loved! I then wanted to broaden my nursing skills and began working in the hospital sector on a Medical/Surgical unit. I loved this fast pace, chaotic unit, but after 3 years working in the hospital, I wanted to try something completely different that would allow me to apply my nursing skills but also allow me to have one to one time with a patient.
What I love about footcare
I love being the reason why someone feels great and confident about their feet and providing education along the way of how they can better take care of their feet. I initially didn’t realize that some people feel self-conscious with how their feet look and have felt that there was no easy fix or felt that they must live with these concerns or daily pain. I love that I can provide this footcare service and instantly make the client feel better about their feet and can help relieve pain that they may be feeling in their feet. The other piece I love about footcare is that it allows me the time to create relationships and have meaningful conversations with my clients, without feeling rushed to get to another person or task.
How I would like to mentor students
I have always been a very hands-on person, and I learn best by having the reasoning explained to me along with seeing it and practicing it. Learning skills in footcare requires hands-on experiences and exposure to many different feet and many different foot conditions to provide the best care and education to your clients. This can come with some nervousness when first starting out, and I would want to provide a supportive and knowledgeable learning environment, to ensure my students feel empowered and well-prepared to succeed in their careers. As the student gains more knowledge and becomes more comfortable with the skills and tools, I would want to encourage the student to think critically about different treatment options, patient needs, and possibly any complications as treatments are very specialized to the individual.
